Revolving Doors Relaxed - A water pouring and smoke blowing performance. A homage to Francis Picabia's 1924 ballet Relâche. This new work for Manifesten re-enacts the interplay between the two lead performers Edith Bonsdorff and Jean Borlin in Francis Picabia’s Dada ballet Relâche.
In this particular sequence of Relâche, the performers start with ‘the dance of the revolving doors’ and then proceed to engage in a set of activities that negate each other, for example one performer chain smokes whilst the other meticulously pours water from one container to another, akin to a fireman extinguishing a fire. I have reimagined these events in the context of an outdoor summer event.
I would like to thank Shona Handley for her help on this project. |
