ASOS - AN AMERICAN IN PARIS AND ALL ABOUT EVE 2009

An American in Paris and All About Eve are part of an ongoing research project called ASOS. ASOS, As Seen On Screen, remakes remembered props and scenery from films. The films examined are those that already have a crossover of dimensions ie films that deal with the content of a play within a play, or are real life stories retold. The titles of all the ASOS works correspond with the film titles and characters that they are linked to. The props take the form of physical objects, creating an otherworldly feel – a push and pull between the 2d and 3d. - Details below images.

An American In Paris

An American in Paris was a performance made for Place Project Edinburgh. The work was loosely based on the idea of spotlights inspired by the film An American In Paris. Participants were asked to re-enact images from a visual script in the performance circle provided. Scrim performed a soundtrack that responded to the performance activity.

ALL ABOUT EVE

All About Eve was a performance based installation made for Re-Make curated by Jenny Richards and Charlotte Jones. In All About Eve a large bunch of flowers is given to an actress and placed directly in front of a Tolouse Lautrec poster. I’m drawn to this image as a motif for a power struggle in art, the painted image versus it’s subject the natural world. The two elements vie for attention and in this installation they will ultimately cancel each other out.
