NEWS YOU CAN USE It’s already no longer now, everything happening all the time to everyone, everywhere, a news ticker spooling and telling, red tops and broadsheets and people you don’t know fucking and fighting and wars in places you can’t point to on the map, it’s a glut of words, banner headlines blaring and distilling the actual into comestible snippets, the simplicity of translating the whole world in to words.
Tessa Lynch finds fodder in the constant glut of testimony and reportage, pulling from the stream of absurdity and flux a source for performances, tableaux and workshops. – Rose Ruane
News You Can Use acts out news stories in the form of tableaux. The props were made in advance reflecting themes in current affairs and they hinted at the idea of the soapbox and the backyard activist. The work was shown as part of The Collective Gallery’s New Work Scotland Programme.
The titles underneath each image hint at the original news story they were made in response to.
